about
The Black Love Blueprint is a documentary film that explores the challenges of black love and ways to heal the growing war between black men and black women. The root problem for every documentary film is how to get its main message to reach the audience more easily. That is why coming up with а unique design concept for the film was an important part of this project. Having a visual theme that well connects to the content of the film, makes the viewers better engaged and more open towards understanding its message.

The overall style of the film was designed to resemble a blueprint paper, as the film title suggested. Various elements such as hand-drawn sketches, scotch tape or paper cutouts help to visually compliment that idea. The contrasting gold color used in the main title, combined with a serif typeface, brings a feeling of something elegant, classy and long-standing. Capitalizing the word "love" makes it the main focal point, while also balancing the typography layout.

The final part of this project was cutting together several trailers. They all had to be different from each other, not only in terms of their time duration, but also as to what mood they carry. The first example below demonstrates a trailer that goes from feeling dramatic to uplifting, whereas the second trailer has more suspense.

From the editing process to creating all motion graphics, working on a full-length documentary film requires a lot of time, energy and commitment. Such huge projects involve a lot of cooperation and creative skills. The Black Love Blueprint film is available for streaming on Amazon Prime and Vimeo On Demand.
