Freckle (formerly Front Row) is an online education platform for teachers and students, that provides learning materials on Math, ELA, Social Studies and Science. When it comes to animated video lessons, they often are a double-edged sword. On one hand, they are fun and appealing to children, but they can also be quite distracting, making it harder for students to focus on the lesson. So the best solution in this case was to aim at the golden mean. Keeping the animations clean and simple helps students to retain their attention on the narrated script. Having backgrounds that are less busy also makes for a cleaner look. This way the visuals on screen are in favor of the learning process, while still being interesting to watch.
